Located on the banks of the Yarrowee River and on the western plains of the Great Dividing Range is the Victorian city of Ballarat. Archibald Yuille, a Scottish squatter, first named the city using words derived from the Aboriginal people.

The city is probably best known for the Eureka Rebellion (the battle of which occurred on the 3rd of December, 1854). It is considered the birth of democracy in Australia and is also when the Eureka Flag was first used.
